Speeding earns you less, not more

Speeding earns you less, not more

Speeding drivers are a constant obstacle for every fleet manager.  Most drivers are paid by the mile, so they think the more miles they cover in a day, the more they earn. But that’s not the case because the faster a driver drives the more likely he is to:

  • Receive a citation that results in a heavy fine for him
  • Catch the eye of a CMV police officer and receive a DOT inspection resulting in points for his company which will result in additional fines imposed by his company
  • Cause an accident which is costly for everyone and could lead to jail time if his speeding was egregious.

The bottom line is driving faster doesn’t really add to the driver’s bottom line in the long run. Drivers who routinely speed are destined to be caught, ticketed and more.  If is a far better business practice for drivers to:

  • Always obey the posted speed limit
  • Observe the three-second rule so they never follow too closely
  • Conserve fuel by driving at a consistent, legal speed.

Happy trails,

Brian
